Here’s the Story:

With school solidly in session, we can all take a collective sigh of relief as we settle into more regular schedules and routines. But if your child is in pre-K, fifth grade, or eighth, you probably have a lot on your mind. School admissions in NYC is a strange beast, and it doesn’t help that the rules keep changing over the last few years due to redistricting and pandemic regulations.

Down to the Nitty-gritty:

Before you panic, know that there are plenty of resources to help you through the process. On a personal note, I’ve done the middle school application rounds twice and am currently in the midst of my second round of high school applications, and I’m always happy to share my experience and give you all my tips!

And there have been some helpful developments recently, like in-person tours opening back up and the DOE changing requirements for middle school and high school applications. Furthermore, if you were worried about being waitlisted for your zoned elementary school, with enrollment down for NYC public schools you now have a greater chance of getting that spot.

What’s the Takeaway?

If this is all feeling overwhelming, I’m here to chat! And below is a list of some great resources to get you started. You’ve got this!

The Gabriele Moment

The Bridge is a car enthusiast’s heaven. You can imagine my excitement at returning to this amazing event! Set on a racetrack-turned-golf course, The Bridge is a luxurious, invite-only car show where the dress is festive, the champagne is flowing and the lobster rolls are the best you’ve ever tasted. Compass was a sponsor this year and Marc and I drove Wally (my classic Porsche Boxster S) out to enjoy the sights and meet up with old and new friends. Coming from Brooklyn and Manhattan, where a property with a dedicated parking spot is prime real estate, we appreciated this world devoted to classic, racing and high-end automobiles. Even the parking lot was a car show in and of itself!
