It’s a good time to be a dog. In this market — slanting toward buyers and renters alike — your human companions can more easily find a place to call home. Sellers and landlords are willing to take higher risks just to move the properties, so give your humans a nudge and start the dog-house hunt.
The Process
That’s not to say all doggy doors are open. It’s important to sniff out the fine print when you’re looking through house rules and by-laws. Many buyers and renters might think that “pet friendly” is the end of the equation. Not so. It might mean cats and small dogs only — Retrievers and Shepherds need not apply. And “pets upon approval” means you better groom yourself well as it won’t just be your owners they’re interviewing. (Follow these links for more on important pet laws and interesting by-laws) A notable exception to all this: service animals do not fall under a building’s pet policy and you can move in with your human even in a no pets building.

The Gabriele Moment: A Word from Jadan
My new family is awesome! I get long walks in the park, tons of play time and all the toys I could ask for. For naptime, I’ve found this sweet spot on the best couch in the house. At night, I’m working on getting to sleep in the big bed with Mommy and Daddy, though they’re still not convinced and Daddy’s got the “OFF” command pretty down. My humans take me to dog training classes where I teach them how to say “SIT” and “DROP IT” like they mean it and when they do a good job I let them pet my fur and they get so excited, it’s cute. And, when I’m just not in the mood, I give them the old “Who, ME?” puppy dog eyes and we’re all good. Yup, I’m living the life. But really, the best part is just getting all of those amazing hugs and always having someone around to play a good game of fetch!
