February 2022: All You Need Is Love, Luck, and a Really Good Contractor
Love is in the air! And we’re not just talking Valentines. The spring real estate season has begun and everywhere you look, someone’s falling in love with a new home. Whether you’re looking to fall in love with yours all over again, or want to cash out at the best possible price, a home renovation is likely in the cards for you. Read on!
The Story: Make It Turnkey
The Jump Off
Before the pandemic hit, you probably didn’t mind so much that your apartment didn’t have a proper home office or quite enough bathrooms. You wanted to be close to your loved ones. Who needed personal space? Fast forward a couple of years, and you’ve not only noticed exactly how many times a day your partner gets on a conference call, but also that there’s a weird-looking crack in the ceiling and a toilet that can’t handle the increased… use. It’s time to renovate.
Know that you’re not alone. Lockdown prompted a lot of would-be sellers to stay put and make the best with the property they had (translation: frequent trips to Home Depot). And now that the real estate market is hopping again, with turnkey properties selling at huge premiums, those renovations are more important than ever. But you don’t need to break the bank to get your home into shape. There are many projects that are an easy DIY (though be aware of current supply chain issues that could affect how long it takes for that custom chandelier to ship in from out of state). Other projects, of course, might require a well-vetted GC. If you go that route, make sure to set realistic and flexible goals. Home renovations are not without their surprises, and not all of those stories end with a goldmine of rare baseball cards hidden in the walls.
The Wrap Up
Before you wall your partner off in their brand new office or powder room, make sure you get the DOB’s seal of approval. The Gabriele Moment: Lucky Number Seven
The number seven is packed with symbolism. It pops up in mythology, spirituality, and even philosophy… but most importantly, it’s lucky! Seven years ago I joined the Compass family and I feel very lucky that I did. Thank you for letting me be a part of your journey over the years, for recommending me to your friends and family, and for your continued trust. It means the world to me!
